Majority black-owned and managed react-habita (Pty) Ltd. start-up is well into the process of developing an intelligent “Care Hub”, an accessible and affordable remote monitoring and communications platform for the elderly and dependent disabled people in South Africa.

Emerging from advanced aerospace engineers in the UK, the react-habita™ Care Hub is a hands-free IoT monitoring device, digital intercom connecting caregivers and dependents, and an emergency alerting system customised for the needs of the disabled dependent community: all offered at R200 per month. The company’s goal is to persistently connect at least 2.5 million disabled, elderly and vulnerable dependents in South Africa with the people who care for them and a set of emergency service contacts.

React-habita’s co-founders are each effective entrepreneurs from formerly disadvantaged populations. CEO, Megan Adonis, is a powerful black and blind advocate of the rights of the disabled in South Africa. She is also the founder/CEO of Feather Linx (Pty) Ltd and DWLD and is the head of the Disability Local Government Youth Forum. Megan was also a winner of Innovate UK’s Global Young Innovator 2021 programme which she shared with Strategy & Human Centric Design Executive, Shefali Sharma, an up-and-coming entrepreneur of Indian origin in the UK’s innovation technology industry. With her MSc in Space Engineering & Astronautics, Shefali is a strategy advisor to In-Space Missions who was named Promising SME Leader at the Royaly Academy of Engineering and also winner of Scotland’s Inward Investment Catalyst Fund Programme 2022.

React-habits aims to acquire 125 000 of those needy families, which will generate an annual gross profit of R75 million for the company and create 150 semi-skilled jobs. The startup is currently seeking investors who share our vision in bringing effective digital inclusion and enablement to South Africa – and beyond – to those who need it most.
